Cell wall Research on ferns and club moss species

This research is part of a recently launched collaboration with Prof. Dr. P. Knox (University of Leeds) and Prof. Dr. W. Willats (University of Copenhagen), the biodiversity of cell wall is examined in lower land plants (mosses, ferns and club moss species). Samples were taken in late 2008 by 118 representatives in the ferns and club moss species. Celwandextracties of these samples will be analyzed semi-quantitatively for the presence of some 20 celwandepitopen through CoMPP analysis. This study, which is the first study CoMPP analyzes are combined with immunohistochemical studies. This makes it possible (1) the presence of some twenty celwandepitopen in a large number of samples to be examined in a short time, (2), the difference will be studied in cell wall composition at a class level, and, (3) to ascertain whether the observed differences in cell wall composition of tissue-specific to be. Collenchyma has not been studied in ferns. In addition, not be typical for bloemplantcollenchymtypes in ferns. Therefore, collenchymatische tissues of some representatives of ferns and flower plants are examined with the aid of monoclonal antibodies, cell-wall. This application is the only option to obtain funding to carry out these studies in my doctoral mandate. This one-year project will be a completely fresh look at both the cell wall composition of ferns as in tissues in general.
