National theory in Dutch epics (1766-1795): formation of a historical experience?

The central focus is the way in which Dutch epics published during the reign of Stadtholder William V (1766-1795) guide the reader toward a historical experience. In this process, the past is used in function of contemporary political ideologies. This research studies both 18th-century Dutch literature and the conceptual question of the relations between literature and historiography.
