Project

Aquatic biota from East African mountain lakes as indicators for climate change: past, present, future

This project aims the biological, limnological and paleolimnological exploration of Eat African mountain lakes, to: (1) develop African non-biting midges as a rainfall-independent paleothermometer: (2) the identificaiton of the suitable sites for high-resolution climate reconstruction (3) the taxonomic inventarisation of the as yet poorly known biodiversity of aquatic algae, insects and microcrustacea in the unique setting of tropical high-mountain lakes.
