Endothelial glycocalyx damage in chronic kidney disease: the link with uraemic toxins.

Patients with chronic kidney disease have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. The continuous exposure to uraemic toxins plays an important role in endothelium dysfunction. The mechanisms by which these toxins regulate early stages of endothelial dysfunction remain unclear.
This project will investigate the link between uraemic toxins and damage of the endothelial glycocalyx (the protective endothelial sugar layer).
