Towards a molecular understanding of Aluminium gentoxcicity for crop improvement

Aluminium (Al) toxicity is a limitation to crop production. The most severe symptom is root growth inhibition. This growth arrest results from DNA damage inducing a cell cycle arrest. In this project we aim to identify the type of DNA damage induced by Al and to uncover the molecular players involved, with the aim to develop Al-resistant barley plants.
