Isolation, identification and functional characterization of bioactive metabolites and quorum sensing systems in diatoms

The overall goal of this project concerns the isolation, identification and functional characterization of secondary metabolites of diatoms and their role as quorum sensing systems and as antimicrobial/quorum sensing disrupting chemicals. Methods for the bioassay guided isolation, purification, structure elucidation and synthesis of bioactive compounds produced by diatoms will be developed.
