Joint R&D 2022: CLEVER: Combining smart electric vehicle charging with second life electric vehicle stationary storage for sustainable grid support (BRGRD64)

The project will look into specific constraints raised by the use of second-life BESS, such as impact on remaining lifetime of the battery cells and the ability of second-life battery cells to provide the power required for the peak-shaving objective. To this end a second life battery asset model will be developed that can be integrated in an energy management system for cost-effective and sustainable local load balancing of industrial or commercial building consumption. The interaction of this energy management system with smart charge scheduling of electric vehicles will be investigated to come to an overall sutainable energy managment of the system. The project will include a real-life demonstration with methods developed in the project to be tested in real-time situations.
