Project
Constructing a long multi-lake paleoseismic record for revealing the recurrence pattern of megathrust earthquakes in southern Alaska
On March 27, 1964, a giant earthquake occured along the Alaskan-Aleutian megathrust (Mw 9.2). In order to predict the next megathrust earthquake, sediment cores from several lakes in southern Alaska will be studied, allowing the construction of a multi-lake paleoseismic record, from which an estimate of the recurrence rate of megathrust earthquakes in Alaska can be inferred.
