Borderland complex in East Asian Buddhism: with a focus on relic veneration and pilgrimage

In treating different Buddhist traditions, scholars have generally pursued an essentialist approach that sets up a "core" from which different traditions are envisioned to have radiated. By using a new perspective focused on "Borderland Complex" to re-interpret some basic religious practices within East Asian Buddhism, this project highlights more dynamic and dialectic patterns of interregional interactions in Buddhism.
