Role of hypoxia in dendritic cell biology and pathogenesis of asthma

Dendritic cells (DCs) play a critical role in the induction of allergic asthma. Metabolic factors like hypoxia-sensing modulate the initiation and course of inflammatory diseases. Our hypothesis is that in inflammatory processes DCs interprete hypoxia as a danger signal. We will examine the role of hypoxia on DC biology by testing specific transgenic mice in a mouse-model of asthma.
