Involvement of human B-lymphocytes in the transmission of hepatitis C virus infections

Our team created a small animal model in which wild-type hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections can be studied. Recently we succeeded in infecting these chimeric mice with B-lymphocytes purified from a chronic HCV patient. This project focuses on the human B-lymphocytes which are a reservoir for infectious HCV virus. Furthermore, the clinical implications of B-cell mediated HCV transmission are analyzed.
