Analysis of the Belgian data regarding the working conditions collected by Eurofound (EWCS2021) (ANALYSE EWCS)

Job quality and workability is a theme that has gained increasing importance in recent years and has become high on the policy agenda, both in Belgium and in the EU. This project studies the quality of work in Belgium using data from the European Working Conditions Survey. The research is divided in two parts: first there is the general analysis based on the Belgian EWCS data, with the aim to describe working conditions in Belgium in 2021. Here, due attention is paid to (i) the comparability with the analyses of the 2010 and 2015 data, by using similar indicators as much as possible in order to be able to do a trend analysis from 2010 onwards. Furthermore, attention will be paid to (ii) the comparison between sectors and types of companies in Belgium; (iii) demographic factors, in particular the gender and age dimensions; and (iii) where relevant, how the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021 may have or has had an impact on job quality in Belgium. In the second part, several thematic chapters will perform the required special analyses, with a crosscutting focus on sectoral comparisons, the gender and age dimension, and the possible impact of the COVID-19 pandemic: the impact of work on health, in particular with respect to psychosocial risks and musculoskeletal disorders; the issue of older workers and sustainable work; the issue of restructuring and its impact on working conditions; the issue of precarious work and the most vulnerable workers. In addition, job quality will also be approached from a more voluntarist perspective, specifically looking at the spectrum between worker exhaustion and engagement.
