Fast and accurate cable fault localization using sensors integrated into cable ends and/or joints

This project focuses on developing sensors possibly integrated into a HVDC cable joint, for use in an online and/or offline fault localization measurement. By using measurements integrated into the cable joint, we are able to achieve a higher fault localization accuracy compared to measurements at the cable end given that attenuation and distortion of the wavefronts will be lower. Furthermore, it puts no special requirements on the location of the fiber optics, compared to the distributed fiber optic methods. As such, the fault localization can be performed automatically using the measured wavefronts, without need for specialized techniques.
