Infrastructure

An integrated multimodal platform for brain mapping at high spatiotemporal resolution: 3 Tesla MRI infrastructure. (3TESLAMRI)

Understanding the link between neural activity and human behavior is a central endeavor in neuroscience. Neuroscience research from animal models to human patients has direct translational applications: understanding normal brain function is critical for unraveling disease and paving the path to treatment. At our institution the number of competent imaging researchers is steadily increasing and this requires an expansion of the current infrastructure to secure future growth, innovation and success. Therefore, this consortium applies for a research-dedicated human 3 tesla MRI scanner. The requested infrastructure will be critical for implementing and advancing novel technological developments in imaging research and will form the core of a multimodal platform consisting of several neuroscientific techniques (including EEG, transcranial magnetic stimulation and molecular imaging). The integration of this complementary infrastructure with a 3 tesla MRI will be unique in Flanders and meets the increasing technical challenges for producing groundbraking neuroscience. These technological innovations will be carried out in collaboration with an industrial partner.
