DIGISTEM - Teacher education students create digital powerful learning environments for STEM (DIGISTEM)

The primary objective of this pilot project is to prepare students teachers in kindergarten and primary education to create powerful learning environments for STEM by engaging in digital forms of teaching. This will enable them to respond to the changing educational context characterized by diverse classroom and school environments and digitalization of education. The result will be a DIGISTEM curriculum module for teacher education in which didactical principles regarding digital learning are linked to STEM and illustrated with several good practices that have been tested - per age group - within the duration of this project in pilot schools.

This pilot project is underpinned by the methodology of educational design research, which involves three phases, namely an analysis phase, a prototype phase and an assessment phase. In the analysis phase, we work with core teams from the pilot schools with the aim of carrying out a context analysis of the current classroom practice in relation to the subject and also to identify the needs and expectations of various stakeholders (teacher trainers, teachers, students, educational supervisors). Within the prototype phase Teacher Design Teams (TDT) will be organized in which teacher educators, student teachers, teachers and researchers will work together with the aim of developing and testing didactic principles and good practices. These are to form the basis for the DIGISTEM curriculum module. Within the assessment phase, the methodology of the AUSIC principle is used. By organizing study days and various extra training and professionalization moments, the DIGISTEM didactics and good practices can be distributed among teacher trainers, teachers and other educational professionals.
