About Land, Flora and Water: A Landscape Urbanism Prospection of Bogotá City.

The population in the plateau of Bogota will continue to grow in the coming years, accelerating the urbanization of highly productive landscape through abrupt changes to the land use and systematic drying out of large water bodies. Some of the most dramatic effects of this is the reduction in the resilience of biodiversity in the territory due to the high rate of pollutants found in surface water bodies as a consequence of domestic and industrial discharge and substantial changes in the vegetation cover of the plateau through massive uses of imported flora, which has led to an exponential reduction in the resilience and biodiversity of the territory. This research aims to carry out a strategic urbanism investigation looking into ways to increase the resilience of the plateau of Bogotá through the recovery and exploration of new uses of green and water structures in public spaces; developing interfaces between, ecology, landscape architecture and urbanism, urban planning and environmental engineering. In order to do this, I will use a research by design approach and a transdisciplinary methodology which is appropriate to deal with the inherent problems in urbanism and ecology. Due to the systemic approach it will foster new collaborations between academia and different actors and between different professions and branches of knowledge.
