One God And One Lord. The Meaning of the Lordship of Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians, with a special focus on 1 Cor 8:6

Book - Dissertation

The Meaning of the Lordship of Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians One of the most important problems of the Christology of Paul is how he understands the nature of the figure of Jesus Christ. The careful analysis of the title 'Lord' and of the connected idea of 'lordship' is a clue to this problem. Different possible dimensions of this aspect have to be envisaged: whether Paul limits the lordship with the group of the believers or considers it as the manifestation of the universal dominion; whether he considers it as started from certain historical event or as having pre-existence nature; whether the source of the Christian lordship lies in the Pagan tradition of veneration or in the Jewish monotheistic formulas; how the idea of 'lordship' correlates with the messianic expectations (and linked with the title 'Messiah'). The field of the investigation is the First letter to the Corinthians in which the title 'lord' is used more frequent than in other parts of the Corpus Pauline.
