Contemporary view and new insights in mid –and long term vascular access

Although mid-and long term vascular access is an important part of almost any modern medical treatment many questions remain. The quick evolution in medical treatments needing vascular access has led to a wide range of catheter types and implantation techniques. The type of catheter for a specific patient is based on the type of therapy, duration, expected complications, cost, ... . For some subgroups the ideal type of catheter is still unclear. This thesis aims to address these questions.
