Politique des Réunions and International 'Cannon' Law: Law or(and) power politics?

The research is conducted as one part of the efforts of understanding the legitimation and legal process of border formation between sovereign states in the age of the classical law of nations in Europe. By case study on Chambers de Réunions around Metz and comparative study of border formation in China, the research aims at exploring how states achieve as well as implement the principle of exclusive territorial jurisdiction (of law making, legal institution reform and law enforcement) through the process of delineation/reorganisation of territory in forms of treaties of peace and border treaties in order to achieve the transformation from jurisdictional pluralism to monism. Also, legal organisation of transfer of territory will be discussed. In the end, we try to draw a bigger picture on strategic gains&losses and influence on the international law.
