Breathing toolbox for efficiently teaching, assessing, and monitoring various breathing therapies (BreatheBox)
Learning and applying breathing techniques is very important in many (preventive) therapies, such as respiratory physical therapy, inhalation therapy, stress and burnout treatment and speech therapy. In these therapies, controlling specific breathing parameters according to a certain protocol is crucial to achieve the therapy goals.
Currently, respiratory therapists and breathing coaches teach their clients breathing techniques using spoken instructions. To evaluate the client's performance during therapy, therapists use their natural senses (seeing, feeling, hearing) and currently lack intelligent tools that help to quantitatively assess the performance of the techniques. Therapists can benefit from tools that can objectively record respiratory parameters and help to guide and monitor patients more efficiently (e.g., partially from a distance). In addition, they benefit from educational tools to efficiently teach the sometimes complex therapies.
