Project

Species Action Plan Stag Beetle (EVINBO)

The aim of this project is to draw up a design species protection programme (SPP) for stag beetle in accordance with the provisions of the Species Decree. The general objective of a SPP is the sustainable survival of the species concerned in Flanders. With this sustainable survival, the regional conservation objectives (RCO) for this species will be fulfilled. However, a large proportion of the populations that are included in the RCO for stag beetle have already disappeared, so that updating the RCO seems desirable. With the draft SPP for stag beetle we therefore aim to describe a package of measures to safeguard and expand the still existing populations and thus to plan a first step for the sustainable survival of this species in the long term. However, even after the implementation of this first SPP, further work will still have to be done on the recovery of this species before it can be considered a sustainable survival.
