LIFE Connexions - Priority actions for grasslands, forests and associated species connexions in Wallonia (BE) and Great East region (FR) - LIFE19 NAT/BE/000093

This project aims at improving the conservation status of 500 ha of target habitats using an integrated approach, involving both in situ and ex situ conservation techniques. As a centre of excellence in ex situ conservation, Meise BG is in charge of species reintroductions and reinforcements of 5 perennial species that will be propagated, transplanted and monitored: Gentiana cruciata, Gentianopsis ciliata, Pulsatilla vulgaris, Salvia pratensis, and Trifolium montanum. In addition to this, 9 other difficult-to-propagate species (mainly orchids) will be sown on some restored sites using seeds stored iat Meise Seed Bank. The aim is to increase the effective size of the remaining populations (reinforcements) and to restore the extinct populations (reintroductions) in order to improve connectivity in the landscape.
