Organisation profile:

The Aquatic Management research group conducts research into various aspects of the management of standing and running water. The focus is on habitat restoration and restoration of longitudinal and lateral connectivity in streams and rivers as required for the conservation and restoration of aquatic fauna and flora. Typical research issues include the construction of environmentally friendly river banks, river restoration and the construction of fish corridors. In addition, research is also conducted into the recovery and reintroduction of rare, endangered and vanished species of fish. The research group sets up breeding programmes and uses habitat modelling to assess the chances of success for reintroductions. The recovery programmes are monitored and evaluated.
