Research Group
Main organisation:Department of Biomedical Sciences
Lifecycle:1 Jan 1990 → Today
Organisation profile:
The Microbiology Research Group is comprised of three research units conducting fundamental and translational biomedical research to enhance the control of diseases caused by:
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis, M. leprae, and M. ulcerans (Mycobacteriology Unit)
- Arboviruses (Virology Unit)
- Plasmodium parasites, with a focus on the interactions between malaria parasites and Anopheles mosquitoes (Experimental Immunology Unit)
The group shares common research questions, expertise and technologies in fundamental and translational biomedical research to improve the diagnosis, treatment, surveillance and control of mycobacteria, viruses, and malaria vectors, as well as to understand host and vector immunity against pathogens and exploit it for new control tools, treatments and vaccines.
