the effect of greening playgrounds for the well-being of children (R-12244)

In this study, the effect of greening schoolyards on the well-being of children aged 9-12 is analysed. It has been shown that spending time in a green environment contributes to the emotional and general health of children. Here, the contribution of green playgrounds and biodiversity for the weight, physical activity level, cognitive development and emotional well-being is analyzed. A cost-effectiveness analysis is performed to examine both the costs and the health outcomes of the intervention (greening schoolyards) as compared to 'grey' schoolyards.
