Sabbatical Hoorens: From information to insight. A theoretical and didactical contemplation
My research goals are - Writing a theoretical article about potentially far-reaching systematic biases in the way research results are being described (with Sara Hodges, University of Oregon). In this article, we will show how regularities in the production and interpretation of everyday verbal communication also characterize scientific communication, and how that affects the development of balanced theories on the basis of research findings. - Writing a theoretical article on how people evaluate the veracity of claims (with Susanne Bruckmüller, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg). In this article, we will show how social psychological research not only show how people distinguish between true and false information (and why they sometimes err in this process) but can also illuminate a long-standing epistemic debate in philosophy. - Write an application for research funding for FWO or Horizon Europe on the consequences of self-serving biases in risk perception and personal perception for risk and social behavior in the context of community-wide health threats.
