Molecular characterization of the tumor microenvironment of breast cancer metastases

This doctoral thesis intends to evaluate, comprehend and explore the field of heterogeneity within the tumour microenvironment of human breast cancer metastases. Multi-omics data will be generated using samples collected in the context of the UPTIDER post-mortem tissue donation program at the KU/UZ Leuven. Using bioinformatic and biostatistical approaches, the project is expected to provide novel information of the intra-patient, inter-metastasis heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment, as well as to generate organ-specific knowledge. Finally, the thesis intends to place a broader perspective on the field of breast cancer, facilitating a cohesive understanding of the tumour microenvironment, with the ultimate goal to refine the treatment of future patients with breast cancer.
