MIDEQ – Microneedling and Intradermal Dispensing of Exact Quantities (MIDEQ)

Intradermal injections of injectables such as botulinum toxin (botox), hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma are one of the most performed procedures globally. In 2019, over  10 million aesthetic injection procedures were performed by plastic surgeons alone. Despite the multitude of available devices, most are inefficient, thus wasting valuable time and money. To overcome the current shortcomings, MIDEQ was conceptualized. Invented at Ghent University, MIDEQ aims to make procedures shorter by at least 50%, while simultaneously ensuring no drug loss, thereby saving money for the patient while generating additional income for the practitioner. The device consists of 2 main components, a reusable motor unit and a disposable set, containing a uniquely designed needling cartridge. The aim of this StarTT project is to establish technical Proof of Concept through extensive testing on ex vivo human waste material. Simultaneously, the existing IP will be strengthened and the valorization strategy will be crafted.
