Power and Restraint: A critical examination of the unilateral sanctions of the European Union through the kaleidoscopic lens of proportionality

The thesis explores the many interactions between international criminal law and international humanitarian law as applied to the context of the armed conflict in Syria since 2011. Particular attention will be given to specific practices, such as the funding of Islamic State with the illegal sale of antiquities and protected cultural heritage.
