Stroke in urban Suriname and the feasibility of a home-based semi-supervised physiotherapy program

Book - Dissertation

Stroke in Urban Suriname and the feasibility of a home-based semi-supervised physiotherapy programCardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death. This is also the case for Suriname, a middle-income country in South America with a multi-ethnic population. No prevalence data is available for CVA and its risk factors. As Suriname has a multi-ethnic population, ethnic background is an interesting factor to consider. This can be useful when designing (secondary) preventive strategies. For chronic stroke survivors, there is no physical fitness intervention in place in Suriname. A home-based physical fitness program for the improvement of cardiorespiratory fitness, walking ability, and quality of life will be developed for different ethnic groups who survived after stroke in Suriname.
