Digital transformations in culture and arts education (OZR3758)

Culture and art participation increasingly occur both in physical, ‘traditional’ institutions (e.g. the museum, the arts center or the (art) school) and in digital spaces. The growing importance of these digital forms was made very visible as a consequence of the Covid-19 measures in the arts and culture sector, and in formal and art education (DKO). In theoretical literature, it is supposed that these digital (informal) spaces enable new practices and functions, while they possibly compete with traditional (physical) ways of cultural mediation. How must the cultural worker and educator act within these new configurations? The proposed research program will allow us to better understand the social practices and functions of (digital) cultural and art education by using qualitative research methods to describe current (ped)agogic actions and thinking. In doing so, we hope to connect current research on culture education and cultural participation to new practices within digitalization in education. Both are currently research strands within the department that we hope to connect more deeply in this research program.
