From pore to core: understanding multiphase flow in rocks from the μm- to the cm-scale using multi-scale X-ray imaging

Large-scale models of fluids flowing in the Earth’s subsurface are semi-empirical, while fundamental pore-scale studies are commonly performed on unrepresentative volumes. This project will bridge this gap by systematically characterizing multiphase flow from the pore- to the core-scale using multi-scale X-ray imaging. This is a crucial step to achieve better models of groundwater resources and geological carbon and energy storage.
