Probing the New Normal

Rather than approaching the covid-19 pandemic as a state of exception, labelled unreal or abnormal, we argue it is exposing the layered complexities of our contemporary reality. Accepting this new normal provides architecture with the opportunity to rethink its mode of operation and position within the contemporary world. Architectural artefacts can no longer be seen as the mere result of human ingenuity, they are inevitably entangled with material, technological, environmental and biological agencies. In this text we will outline our tentative mapping of technosphere, probing the new normal through speculative design projects developed within fieldstation studio.
