IOF Proof of Concept: Optimalisation of the virtual ability of differential gearboxes to realize very efficient robotics transmissions (IOFPOC38)

Safety and the ability to collaborate directly with humans require actuation principles more strongly focused on weight and efficiency to enable human-centered robotics. Planetary gear trains offer a large design space capable of accommodating very different needs at the cost of high complexity. In this project we aim at assessing the potential of a new gear technology developed by the R&MM group of the VUB. In particular, we aim to enable planetary gear trains to match the needs of the future generation of human-centered robotic devices..
