Distributed integrated acoustic echo and noise cancellation in smart home voice communication

The general goal of the project is to develop and evaluate distributed signal processing systems for integrated acoustic echo and noise cancellation. Specifically, voice communication scenarios will be considered between smart home environments, equipped with fixed distributed loudspeaker/microphone infrastructure together with heterogeneous mobile/wearable devices. For such scenarios, the goal is to investigate how realtime signal processing functionalities traditionally implemented in an individual device, can be either distributed over the local network of devices or otherwise integrated into the overall network operation, i.e. can be made a network functionality or network (fog/cloud) service. A general trade-off is then to be sought in the allocation of communication resources and computational resources, under tight real-time constraints
