Artificial intelligence and soft robotics

There is an increasing trend towards the use of soft structures in robotics. In these structures specific functionalities are often physically integrated, which can be considered as a form of artificial or embedded intelligence. Furthermore, there is a need for modelling and control tools that can capture the high number of non-linearities and degrees of freedom in a soft robot accurately, for which artificial neural networks are utterly suited. The research will focus on the application of concepts from the field of artificial intelligence in the context of soft robotics.
