Software Services to Simplify Time Management for IoT Application Development

The Internet-of-Things (IoT) consists of physical objects that are enhanced with computation and communication capabilities to sense and transmit their measurements to applications.

Many IoT applications are time-senstive, e.g. real-time industrial monitoring, requiring timely reactions to incoming sensor data to produce correct results.

Managing time in IoT application development is challenging due to the large degree of platform, network and application dynamism and heterogeneity, including varying message inter-generation and transmission delay, sensor mobility, sensor failures, and changing application data requirements.

The goal of my PhD is to provide a set of software services that facilitate time management in IoT application development, in the form of middleware and programming language extensions.
