Project

Towards an inclusive Covid - 19 crisis communication policy in Belgium; developing and validating strategies of multilingual and accessible crisis communication.

This interdisciplinary, applied project responds to the current issue of Covid ‐ 19
government communication and the flow of information to groups that are difficult to reach, such as
language minorities, vulnerable groups with low socio-economic status and persons with a
sensory limitation. The project aims to develop a strategy for inclusive Covid ‐ 19
crisis communication, which takes into account the (mult) linguistic and socio-cultural diversity and degree of
literacy of the Belgian population. In this way, the project wants information inequality
and the problems of reaching (language) minorities and vulnerable target groups
tackle. The focus is on developing strategies to overcome linguistic and sensory barriers
Covid ‐ 19 to eliminate government communication through translation and retranslation, both in terms of form
of the message and the channels through which they are disseminated. This is realized through the
"Bottom ‐ up" participatory development, validation and implementation of target group ‐ specific
communication strategies tailored to language minorities and vulnerable groups in Belgium.
