Grid-Forming STATCOMs - detailed harmonic performance analysis of future assets and their interactions with the transmission system.

Massively phasing out all types of thermal power plants and replacing them with power electronic interfaced resources brings a rapidly decrease in the power system inertia. A new generation STATCOMs with grid forming capabilities can be part of the solution to solve this problem. Additionally, it is still unclear whether these systems are more susceptible for harmonic problems than current-day infrastructure. The aim of this thesis is to shed light on the possible harmonic problems that could arrive from this transition and additionally come with the control required to solve the possible problems using these STATCOMs.
