'De filosofische analyse ver vooruit'. Hans Blumenberg als literaire filosoof

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

This paper shows how Blumenberg can be fundamentally read as a literary philosopher by un-derstanding Blumenberg’s work from the point of view of his use of anecdote and irony, his central term ‘reoccupation’, his literary ‘concept of reality’ and by using Kafka as an example of how literature can help philosophy as a trailblazer in its task of ‘denaturalization’. Blumenberg’s ‘literary strategies’, his attention to metaphors, his contribution to the debate on secularization, his phenomenological and anthropological texts and even his implicitly political texts can be understood against the background of his radical connection between literature and philosophy. This critical analysis shows that in his early writings on literature and art, Blumenberg himself was – in accordance with his views – far ahead of his own philosophical investigations.
