Funktionalistische Literaturtheorie und technische Kommunikation

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

Subtitle:Funktionalismus als Basis für eine Annäherung von Techniktranslation und Technikkommunikation
In the Skopos Theory (Reiß/Vermeer 1984) and in the Translational Action Theory (Holz-Mänttäri 1984), translation is viewed as an intentional activity with a purpose. These theories introduce the offer of information (Informationsangebot) and message (Botschaft) concepts, which become more important than the concept of source text. They emphasise the linguistic, cultural and situational adequacy of a translatum (Translat) and translation is seen as a cooperative action of experts with a need-bearer and other experts. This paper focuses on how the new concepts of the Skopos Theory and the Translational Action Theory influence the relationship between technical translation and technical communication. It can be shown that technical translation and technical communication share many features and that the research methods of both disciplines can be mutually enriching. In this paper, I shall highlight how insights and methods of technical communication create new perspectives in translation studies and translation practice and how documents and texts, as a result of technical communication and technical translation, can be represented as a network.
