Project

Circular Use of Road Construction Materials.

The main goal of my research is to answer several key questions for managing potentially valuable resources in pavements. First, how many and how much resources are accumulated in pavements? Second, where are these resources located and distributed? Third, when will these resources be available? Fourth, how much value can we obtain from recycling or reusing these resources? Fifth, are there any ways to achieve three important goals at the same time—(i) keeping materials out of landfills, (ii) reducing environmental impacts, and (iii) satisfying engineering requirements? I will develop a platform of complementary techniques and knowledge that will be able to answer these questions with real-world cases. I believe that the immediate results, as well as the subsequent work building on the platform, will lead to improved sustainability and reduced costs in pavement development moving forward.
