Neutrophils: underestimated players in multiple sclerosis (R-11590)

In this study, we want to unravel the implication of neutrophils in MS pathogenesis, who were up to now underestimated as players in this disease. We aim to carry out an in-depth phenotypic characterization of neutrophils from MS patients to discover distinct subsets, potentially related to disease or treatment regimen. In addition, we will assess the different effector functions by which neutrophils might contribute to disease pathogenesis. We will also study the effect of MS drugs on the function and phenotype of neutrophils. Finally, neutrophil migration will be studied in vivo using intravital imaging
