Single-molecule structural investigations of tau protein (R-11588)

Tauopathy is the most common form of dementia. A common hallmark of such diseases is the aggregation and deposition of tau protein. The process by which the aggregation is initiated is not yet fully understood. Conformational changes are a key factor for a pathological deposition of tau. In this project, I will study in real-time the conformational changes from monomeric to aggregated tau. This detailed knowledge would enable targeting the tau protein in better ways.
