Advanced thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) tools for advanced study of materials and sustainable processes

This project aims for the purchase of a new advanced equipment for thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA is an important and basic characterization tool for research groups active in the domain of material chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis and polymer chemistry. This equipment allows to perform high quality characterization of thermal properties of materials, most often as a weight change measurement in function of a controlled temperature program under specific atmosphere. The nature of this thermal decomposition/degradation is vital to obtain information about the structure of materials as well as the properties of deposited matter e.g. in case of coked catalysts; on top of providing access to thermal stability metrics (e.g., plastic waste, bioplastics e.g.) and key parameters of synthetic steps. It is an indispensable instrument in the research for durable materials, sustainable polymers and catalysis. The equipment can be coupled with infrared and mass spectrometry to study the generated gas molecules as a results of the thermal treatment.
