Project

Vevo 3100 for animal micro-echocardiography and micro-ultrasound

Ultrasound is an essential tool in several fields, including gynecology and cardiology. Other fields, including cancer research, also make use of ultrasound technology. Though ultrasound is a common piece of equipment, animal studies cannot use machine intended for humans because the spatial and temporal resolution needed for people and animals differ widely. Ultrasound also allows us to follow disease progression in a manner that is non-invasive and non-harmful to the animal, thereby reducing the number of animals used in research. KU Leuven has ongoing world-renown research in both cardiology and gynecology. We have a very old ultrasound machine that we have been informed will no longer be supported. As such, we are at risk of being unable to continue these lines of research and desperately need funding to purchase a more modern instrument.
