Ultra-dense cell-free mmWave deployment

Cell-Free Massive MIMO (CFM-MIMO) provides a significant gain in terms of spectral efficiency, and improves the system performance in terms of outage rate, system throughput, etc. However, state-of-the-art CFM-MIMO focuses on low-frequency bands, whereas mmWave bands remain nearly unexploited, despite their potential to bring high gains if a sufficient number of antennas are visible at any location. Optimal assignment of mmWave beams to network users will achieve a cost-efficient CFM-MIMO network. Practical algorithms will be designed that leverage mmWave sensing and environmental mapping to reduce the complexity and relax synchronization requirements, ensuring a highly scalable mmWave CFM-MIMO system.
