Catholic Theology in Despair? Receiving the Conciliar Legacy Between Identity Politics and Culture Wars (1965-1985)

This project aims to map the ideological profile and development of the authors writing in the theological journals 'Concilium' and 'Communio' between 1965 and 1985, with a particular focus on identity formation, theological milieus, and mythmaking of the conciliar legacy to deal with ecclesial and societal developments. Combining an historical network research with archival research and contextual text analysis, the project will focus on theological actors and milieus involved in the interpretation and implementation of the council; their belonging to ideological schools on the basis of their citation network, either or not coinciding with the journals 'Concilium' and 'Communio'; and their relation to the ecclesial and larger societal context.
