Project

Perfect Heroes? The Reception History of Abraham, Moses and David in Parallel and Contrast.

This PhD project is a part of a larger project entitled Longing for Perfection. Living the Perfect Life in Late Antiquity – A Journey Between Ideal and Reality and coordinated by a team of KU Leuven professors. It studies the reception of the figures of Abraham, Moses and David in early Christian literature as prototypes of ‘imperfect perfection’. The biblical figures are studied for themselves, but then also in parallel, in order to detect patterns or strategies in dealing with their virtues and vices and in representing them as guides who can lead the audience/readers to moral improvement and help them in their search towards living a more perfect life.
