Virtual Sensor Approaches for Condition Monitoring of Vertical Transportation Systems

Book - Dissertation

Model-based condition monitoring for electromechanical systems has received increasing attention during the last decade, motivated by the growing demands on cost efficiency, reliability and product quality of the electromechanical systems. A so-called virtual sensor signal is usually obtained by means of an algorithm that computes a value of a variable which is not measured directly, due to the fact that the variable of interest is not possible to measure, or that a dedicated sensor would be very costly. Instead, statistical inference is made using physics-based models that lead to obtain an estimation of unmeasured variables. These approaches will be applied for the guiding force estimation of transportation systems, which directly have effect on system efficiency and offer a detailed overview of guiding system status.
